Barasat, a small city located at a close proximity to Kolkata,Barasat is only 21 km from Kolkata. serves as the headquarters of the district of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.Barasat is known for historical places like the bungalow of Lord Hastings, the first Nilkuthi (indigo planter’s bungalow), the site where Maharaja Nandakumar was hanged, and so on. The city also houses the site of Titumir’s revolt against the English East India Company, the Ferazee Rebellion. Numerous temples of Barasat uphold the cultural heritage of the city. Some of them are the Kamakhhya Temple and Amdanga Kalibari.The best time to visit Barasat is perhaps during the Kali Puja or Diwali. Held in October or November, the worship of the mother goddess is an important festivity of the city.

By Air : Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is about 11 kilometres from Barasat city. There are Domestic and International terminals separately for domestic and international flights towards different part of the world.

By Train : The Barasat railway station on the Bongaon line of Sealdah Station. Many local trains run from Kolkata and the nearby areas for Barasat.

By BUS : Buses can also be taken to the town of Barasat from all regions including Kolkata, Siliguri and other nearby villages and towns. Buses from Kolkata will charge fares that are less than Rs 10, for the distance of eight kilometers. Buses are quit comfortable over short distances, and you can opt for deluxe and semi deluxe varieties. Both government run buses and private buses can be taken to Barasat.
