The ancient city of Baraqish is renowned for its spectacular natural landscapes and is home to numerous archeological sites. Located in the northern part of the country, Baraqish stands atop a high hill with a wonderful castle surrounded by extremely fortified walls. The city once served as the capital of Ma’een state and during their reign had become an important religious center.
One of the top tourist attractions in Baraqish is the ruins of a temple that lies to the south of the city. The temple is a fine example of Ma’eenis Architecture and features 16 beams and columns. According to the archeologists, it was the famous Athter Temple. Another important temple, located in the center of the city attracts the attention of tourists and historians. Nearby attractions include the Majzer district famous for housing several historical sites that dates back t o the Ma’een Dynasty.
