Baran is located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Baran is a town whose culture is a mish-mash of the the cultures followed by the various dynasties that once ruled the entire region. For this reason, you can see monuments and temples constructed under highly different architectural styles in the town of Baran. While in the town of Baran, you can visit the Brahmani Mata temple. This temple houses a very prominent fire which has been ablaze for the last 400 years. Tourists flock to Baran in order to see the main deity in this temple, and it is very famous among pilgrims as well. You can also visit the countless Jain temples that are present in the region, as there are many ancient temples that were built during the 8th century present in Baran. The Manihara Mahadev Mandir is the yet famous temple in the region. The rock carvings at Bandh Devra Ramgarh are also very famous among tourists and locals, and these carvings date back to the 10th century. The region of Baran, like the whole of Rajasthan, experiences a very tropical climate with hot and dry summers and extremely cold winters.

Baran town is carved out of Kota city is situated further into the Hadoti region of Rajasthan. The region is less crowed and attracts tourists who like to wander through isolated areas and in the interiors one can chance upon a ruined temple here and an abandoned fortress there. There are wooded hills and valleys that provide shelter to a large variety of wildlife of Rajesthan. One can visit Sitabari – a beautiful picnic spot dotted with old temples of Sita and Laxman beside seven water tanks. Sitabari is also venue for a tribal fair held in the months of May/June in Baran city of Rajesthan. Sitabari is an ideal picnic spot, situated about 45Km from Baran in Kelwara kasba on National Highway road connecting Shivpuri-Gwalior.

By Air : The closest air base to Baran is located at Jaipur which is around 250 km from the destination. It is well connected to major Indian cities including Mumbai and New Delhi. From the airport, tourists can hire cabs or take buses to reach the city centre. The Indira Gandhi International Airport of New Delhi is the nearest international air base to Kota.
By Train : You can also opt for trains that run to the railway station in Baran in order to reach the city. Frequent trains will be available to the cities of Jaipur and Delhi from Baran and sleeper class tickets from Jaipur or Delhi to Baran will cost around Rs 175. By BUS : Buses to the town of Baran will be available from all nearby locations as the town lies in close proximity to National Highway 76. You can opt for air conditioned buses and non air conditioned buses to Baran from the cities and towns of Kota, Udaipur, Gwalior, Shahabad, Nahargarh, Shivpuri and Jaipur. Bus fares will range around Rs 250 to 300 from the city of Delhi to Baran, for the 400 kilometre journey.

Sitabari Fair ; Venue: Kelwara in Baran District ; Period : 15 Aug 2013 (12:00 AM) – 18 Aug 2013 (12:00 AM) ; Details: Holy place Sitabri is about 45 km from the Baran city near the Kelwara Kasba. A big tribal fair is organised here on Jeshta Amavasya. The place has number of “Kunds” attributed to Sita, Laxman, Surya, Lav & Kush and taking a holy dip in them is considered auspicious. Lakhs of people come here for this fair which is taken as Kumbh in the Sahariya tribe. The Swyambar (marriage function) of Sahariya tribes is organised in this fair where people comes from all over Rajasthan state and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. A Sahariya boy drops the handkerchief for proposing Sahariya girl in the fair, if the Sahariya girl accepts the Handkerchief, it is said that they are agreed for marriage. The bride and grooms take the 7 rounds (sat phere) of the Barnawa tree and after the blessings of their parents they are accepted as married couple. This fair is also called animal fair where good varieties of Cow, Buffalo etc. selling-purchasing are made. It provides an ideal opportunity to view the tribal life style.
