Located on an island which eventually constrains its size, Banjul is the Gambian capital and the second largest city in the country. Served by the Banjul – Yundum International Airport which is well connected through regular scheduled flights to several European and African destinations, Banjul has come a long way to become a very popular package holiday destination for Europeans, including the British. Featuring numerous hotels spread along a beautiful 40 kilometer sandy coastline, Banjul selectively stands on the south side of the magnificent Gambia River estuary.
Dubbed as ‘The Smiling Coast’, Banjul is dotted with several palm fringed, Atlantic-washed sandy beaches which are most popular with the touring visitors. Home to around 40,000 residents who are delightfully friendly with the guests, the island city of Banjul is connecting with the mainland through passenger and vehicle ferries on the north, and by bridges to the south. Presenting a pleasantly warm climate throughout the year, August is generally the rainiest month bringing cheers to the Banjul festive atmosphere.
