Banasura Sagar Dam is considered to be the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia. The dam extends to a wide area with crystal clear waters. Undisturbed and engulfed amidst the hills, Bansura Sagar Dam is an absolute beauty.It is an ideal place for picnic as it is surrounded by the bounty of nature and the low sound of the clear water gives a feeling of freshness. In fact, when the dam is full, the landscape portrays a picture of upstream formation of the dam and is a mesmerizing sight to visitors. Boating and other water recreational activities are available at the dam.

Banasura Sagar Dam is a huge attraction among tourists especially those from outside India. When the dam was built, its reservoirs sank the surrounding low lying areas of land resulting in the formation of small islands. The islands provide a breath-taking view of the Banasura hills. Many people use the dam for starting their trek to the beautiful mountains of the Western Ghats.

Taxi : Taxis and private vehicles are one of the most common means of travel to Wayanad. The most popular route is Bangalore – Mysore – Gundulpet – Munthanga – Sulthan Battery. The roads are in excellent condition.

BUS : Wayanad is well connected by a wide network of roads and this place can be easily accessed from anywhere in Kerala as well as from neighboring states. For reaching Wayanad by road, NH212 and SH17 are the highways that you need to follow. Otherwise, you can take a bus or hire a cab. Deluxe buses are available for Wayanad, from Bangalore’s Majestic Bus Stand, from 9 am to 10 pm.
