Bamiyan is renowned throughout the World for its archeological remains that attract tourists from all corners of the globe. The scenic valley surrounding Bamiyan is cuddled by the naturally beautiful snow-capped Range of Koh-e-Baba Mountains that lies to the south and to the north are the steep cliffs on which the towering images of Buddha are carved. During the reign of Kanishka the Great, Bamiyan flourished as a major commercial and religious center.
The carved out colossal Buddha statue standing at 55 meters high is the main tourist attraction and is regarded as a sacred pilgrimage destination amongst the Buddhists. Apart from the Buddha Caves, tourist sites like Bande Amir Lakes, Shahr-e-Gholghola and Shahr-e-Zohak rank Bamiyan amongst the leading travel and tourism destination in Afghanistan.
