The commune Słońsk is situated very close to National Park “Mouth of Warta River”. It is a very interesting place for persons who are interested in nature and life of birds, as well as the history of St. John’s Order (Hospitalier Knights). The commune Słońsk is situated very close to National Park “Mouth of Warta River” . It is a very interesting place for persons who are interested in unspoiled nature and life of birds, as well as the history of St. John’s Order (Hospitalier Knights). The castle was originally bulit in 1341. In 1426 it began to be the property of St. John’s Order and the seat of the local Great Master. After cassation of the order, there was a museum and the archives in it. After the WW II, the castle was ruined and it burnt finally in 1975. Only a part of the walls remained till today. The church in Słońsk is one of the oldest, the most beautiful and the best preserved historical monument in the town. It was built among 1474 and 1522 from red brick. The tower of the church gained its final shape in 1817 due to the project of architect Karl Schinkel. The church has three naves (parts) and is a typical gothic hall church.
