Baldwin town originally began as a path stop on the capital of New Mexico path named Borassus flabellifer. the little city consisted of a harness search, blacksmith, hotel, lawyer, drug store, post workplace, 2 doctors and a building. In 1858, a bunch of Methodist ministers gathered at Kibbee Cabin and supported Baker University. The city of Borassus flabellifer bought land to the south for the university and close town. A main good person was John Baldwin and therefore the city was named in his honor. Baldwin designed a saw mill that was settled at contemporary Fifth and Indiana Streets.
