Baikunthpur is a town that is located in the Koriya district of the state of Chattisgarh. The town is known for its many coal mines and it was once a part of a princely state that belonged to King Sheomangal Singh Deo. The place is visited by many tourists and is renowned for its natural beauty and scenic locales. The place is surrounded by many forests and these are teeming with wildlife as well. One can also witness lush green fields and many streams and rivers in the surrounding regions. There are numerous waterfalls that are located near the town and these are popular picnic spots. One of the main waterfalls in the place is the Amrit Dara Waterfall. This is located at a distance of 40 kilometers from the town and a misty spray can be experienced near the falls. An annual fair is conducted here during Mahasivarathri. Ramdhara Waterfall is another popular place and this can be interesting day trip. It is located at a distance of 160 kilometers from the town. The scenic locality attracts many visitors. One can also visit the palace that is situated in the town and there is a temple located nearby as well. The town of Baikunthpur experiences three main seasons and they are summer, monsoon and winter seasons. Summers are generally hot and day temperatures can be unbearable during this period. The monsoon season experiences much needed rainfall and this provides relief from the intense summer heat. Winters are milder and conditions are not harsh. This is a good time to visit the place.

Baikunthpur is a small town, which is part of the district of Koriya in the state of Chattisgarh. Koriya District is the main administrative headquarters of this small town, which is located just a kilometre away from Baikunthpur. This town has an average elevation of about 529 metres and is famous for Churcha, which is the main coal mine of the district. Baikunthpur is also popular for Durga Pooja and the national level football tournament. The district of Koriya was essentially a princely state of British India which was separated from Surguja District on 25th May 1998. Baikunthpur town is situated towards the north-east of Chattisgarh state, comprising Ganga and Mahanadi basins. The entire basin is drained by several rivers, such as Gobri, Gopad, Teej and Hasdeo. The surrounding forest has bamboo, gamhar, khair, shisam, sal, mahua, tendu and various other trees. Baikunthpur is known for its rich deposits of coal, red oxide, limestone and fire clay. Amrit Dhara Falls, Gavar Ghat Falls and Ramdhara Falls are the key tourist attractions near the main town of Baikunthpur. Akuri Nala is a popular picnic spot.

By Air : The city of Raipur has the closest airport and this is the only option for those who are arriving by air. Raipur is reasonably well connected to places such as Bhopal, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata. If you are planning to take this route, you can opt for a taxi to reach the town of Baikunthpur. Taxis are available outside and they cost Rs 7 per kilometer for the trip.
By Train : The closest railway station is located at a place called Annupur. Few trains pass through this junction and it is also connected to the city of Delhi. The other option is the Bilaspur railway station that has better connectivity. One can reach the town of Bilaspur from Delhi easily. Second class tickets cost between Rs 350 and 420.
By BUS : Buses are available from most of the towns and cities in the state to the town of Baikunthpur. It is also connected to places in Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. Tickets rates are cheap and they vary according to the distance travelled.
