Discovered by Christopher Columbus in the year 1492, the Islands of the Bahamas are blessed with perfect location extending 760 miles from the coast off Florida. The Bahamas are ready-made for exploration. Initially inhabited by Lucayans, a subgroup of Arawak Indians, these Islands later became a British colony. Due to the important shipping lanes, piracy flourished during the 17th and early 18th centuries in these Islands. Nassau is the political capital and the commercial hub of The Bahamas.
Today, The Bahamas has become one of the World’s leading vacation resorts, offering tourists a truly tropical paradise of 700 Islands and 2000 cays dotted across the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Tourism, international banking and investment management accounts are country’s gross domestic product. Renowned worldwide as a popular winter holiday destination, the Bahamas is only a few miles from the south Florida coast and the islands can be reached quickly either by air or by sea.
