Baghmara is a very famous destination in the Indian state of Meghalaya. This town is a popular tourist destination mainly because of its natural beauty, and many tourists from the local region and from all across the country flock here in order to visit these places. The Siju Cave is located at a distance of around forty five kilometers away from Baghmara, and this town serves as a base from where tourists can travel to the cave. The famous Baghmara Reserve Forest is also available for the tourist. This is located at a distance of four kilometers from the town, and is an important destination frequented by lovers of wildlife. There are many species of mammals and birds that can spotted in this reserve, including elephants, which are a common sight in the Baghmara reserve. Langurs can also be spotted here. The town of Baghmara experiences a temperate climate and the climate can also be described as a wet type. The main seasons here are summer, winter and monsoon.

HistoryEdit

Baghmara is one of the most significant commercial towns in Meghalaya and is the head quarters of South Garo Hills. It is situated on the bank of Simsang River and a distance of 120 kilometers from Tura and 455 kilometers away from Shillong. The town also shares a border with Bangladesh. Pa Balman A Sangma is the founder of the town. At first it was known as Konagittim. After Pa Balman A Sangma the Bengali citizens renamed it as Baghmara.

By Air : The nearest airport is the Umroi Airport, though there are limited flights. Another airport, the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is also near and is connected by several flights and major cities and towns of the country.

By Train : There are no railway stations or airports in this region, and you will need to travel to Assam in order to opt for these modes of transport (flights, trains). From Assam, you can opt for buses to the town of Baghmara. The local modes of transport are buses and jeeps and these can be taken in order to reach Baghmara.

By BUS : Buses to the town of Baghmara will be available from all nearby regions in the state of Meghalaya. These local buses will be government run, and fares will rarely exceed Rs 100 to 150 from any point in the state to Baghmara. You can opt for deluxe buses through particular routes. Buses will also be available from the city of Guwahati, located in the state of Assam. These buses will be government run and will cost around Rs 300 per trip to Baghmara.

By Taxi : The local modes of transport are buses and jeeps and these can be taken in order to reach Baghmara.
