Bagdogra is a small town that is located in the state of West Bengal in the Darjeeling district. The town is part of the tea growing region and many plantations can be seen in the area. The place also has an outstanding view of the eastern Himalayan Mountains. Many heritage tours are arranged among the tea plantations and these are a worthwhile experience. The Teesta River flows nearby and this is the base for activities such as white water rafting. Many adventure buffs travel to the region to experience rafting in the rapids. Activities such as angling and fishing are possible in the numerous water bodies that dot the region. The hill station of Pelling is good place to visit and there are numerous lakes and forests in the area. Monsoon season is long and the South West monsoon brings rains to the region. Winters are cool and conditions are ideal for visiting. The peak tourist season is during the months from October to March.

Bagdogra, though small, is very well connected by road, air and rail with most of the cities in India. The airstrip in Bagdogra, which is primarily a defence airstrip, is also used for civilian aircrafts. This air strip is the only airbase in North Bengal and most of the trips planned for Darjeeling, Siliguri, Sikkim, Pelling, Kalimpong, etc. have to land and take off from Bagdogra.

By Air : Bagdogra has the only airport in the northern parts of the state and it has recently been converted into an international airport. Flights are the easiest mode of transport to the place and they are available from the cities of Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati. Foreign cities such as Bangkok and Paro are connected to Bagdogra by Druk Air. Taxi stands are available outside the airport.
By Train : Railway connectivity is also available from Kolkata and New Delhi up to The New Jalpaiguri Railway station which is at a distance of half an hour from Bagdogra town. This is the only railway station in the region and has made travel to Bagdogra cheap and within the budget of the traveller.
By BUS : Bus services are available from various cities of the North-East India and the Northern region of West Bengal to reach this town. Private travel agencies also provide travel packages from Bagdogra to Darjeeling (90km), Gangtok (140 km), Siliguri (14 km) and Kalimpong (79 km). It is connected to all the major cities via national highway.
By Taxi : Taxi stands are available outside the airport.Tier three tickets from New Delhi to Jalpaiguri cost a maximum of INR 1600. Second class tickets are cheaper and rates are approximately Rs 430.
