Chandrabhaga Beach is a lovely and quiet place, deriving its name from the ‘Chandrabhaga sea’. Rated as one of the finest beaches, it has a long stretch of clean sand and cool blue sea, creating rapids in the rolling waves. Adorned with lovely serenity, watching the golden sun rising above the blue waters over a clear sky is truly a once in a life time experience. Earlier the river Chandrabhaga joined the sea here, but now only the confluence remains to be seen. According to a legend, the daughter of a sage, Chandrabhaga killed herself by drowning in the river to protect her chastity from Surya, the Sun God. Lord Surya blessed the river with medicinal properties, in repentance, and named it as ‘Chandrabhaga’. Hence it is believed that a dip in River Chandrabhaga can cure leprosy. Pilgrims in large number take holy dip in this confluence on the Magha Saptami day, which falls in February-March every year. Apart from this, the beach also has a functioning light house, rendering it an old world charm.

The Sun Temple at Konarak was built in about 1250 AD by the East Ganga king Narasimhadeva. It is thought he built the temple to commemorate military successes against Muslim invaders.According to local legend, the temple has a great aura of power that comes from two very powerful magnets said to have been built into the tower – magnets that allowed the king’s throne to hover in mid-air.European mariners sailing off the coast used the temple’s tower for navigation, but dubbed it the Black Pagoda for the frequent shipwrecks that occurred along the coast. They attributed the disasters to the legendary magnets’ effect on the tidal pattern.

The Konark museum started in the year 1968 and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. The museum is located near the main temple in the north direction. The museum has four galleries that showcase 260 different fallen architectural pieces and sculptures that were found during the clearance work of Konark temple complex. The Konark museum is a treasure house for historians and art lovers and is open for public.First gallery of the museum holds 62 antiquities, out of which the image of Surya in sand stone, the Khandolite built reconstructed wheel, various incarnations of Lord Visnu, etc. are a major attractions.Second gallery exhibits 108 antiquities including reconstructed wall of temple, the drummer and the head of the crocodile in gigantic nature.Third gallery of this museum showcases 45 objects like celestial nymphs, image of Surya Narayana, Gaja Vyala, the king and his troop and various erotic figures.Recent addition to the museum is the fourth gallery, which holds exhibit of 45 artifacts including roaring lion, man tied by the elephant trunk, part of a Surya image, erotic couples and king witnessing dance performances are some of the art works displayed at this gallery.

Vishnu Temple is a broken brick temple, which is located behind the Ramachandi Temple. The temple is presently just the ruins and remains of original temple. Locals believe that presiding deity in the temple was of Lord Vishnu. Today, tourists visiting the temple can only see the half broken walls of temple. These walls have figures of Goddess Laxmi and Goddess Saraswati. Tourists can see a pillar in front of the temple, which is believed to be the seat of Garuda, who was the cosmic charioteer of Lord Vishnu.
