Nada Sahib Gurudwara holds a great deal of reverence for the Sikhs. Visited by lakhs of devotees on the day of Poornima (full moon) every month, the Gurudwara holds Jor Mela, annually in September, in memory and honor of Guru Teg Bahadur, Banda Bahadur and Dargahi Shah Faqir. Legends hold it that Guru Gobind Singh and his followers, victorious from their battle with the Mughals, had rested at Nada Sahib Gurudwara for a few days. During his stay, Guru Gobind Singh and his army were taken care of by a Babu Nadu Shah. Pleased with Babu Nadu Shah’s services, Guru Gobind Singh blessed him, naming the spot after him.

Nada Sahib Gurudwara, Years later, it was Bhai Motha Singh who built a shrine, marking the sacredness of the spot. Eventually the present day stately domed structure was built in 1956 and a 105 feet holy flag marks the site of the original shrine within the complex. Soon the Gurudwara will house a museum tracing the history of Sikhism.

Capitol complex in Chandigarh, India consists of three main edifices, namely, the Secretariat, the Legislative Assembly and the High Court. Chandigarh capitol complex houses the seat of Government. Initially, it served as the seat only for the Govt of Punjab, but now it has the headquarters of both, the Govt of Punjab and Haryana. The credit for the awesome designing of the Capitol complex goes to Le Corbusier. There was a plan to build a fourth building also, which is going to be the Raj Bhavan, as in the Governor’s Palace or a Museum of Knowledge. However, till yet, it has not come into existence. The three buildings of the Capitol complex stand majestically representing themselves as the temples of democracy of free India.

ISKCON Sri Sri Radha Madhav Temple is a place of worship for the followers of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness or as they are known, the Hare Krishna movement. Created to spread far and wide the practice of Bhakti Yoga, with thoughts and actions devoted towards the appeasement of Lord Krishna who is regarded as the Supreme Lord, it is a sprawling complex with a large number of rooms for the temple priests. Chorusing with kirtans and Hare Krishna chants, ISKCON is where people come for Lord Krishna and Radha Rani’s darshan and along the way discover their inner peace and sense of grounding. As per tradition, six aartis are offered daily by twenty four brahmanically trained priests to the temple deities and along with six corresponding bhoga offerings. A beautiful, glorious temple, it is filled to the hilt during festivals like Janmashthami with ardent followers and devotees. Towards the back of the temple is a tranquil garden, also where the temple’s guest house is situated.

Mata Mansa Devi Temple,is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Mansa Devi, a form of Shakti. The temple complex is spread of 100 acres (0.40 km2) of the Shivalik foothills in village Bilaspur, near Mani Majra, and Panchkula, 10 km from Chandi Mandir, another noted Devi shrine in the region, both just outside Chandigarh. It is one of the prominent Shakti temples of North India. Thousands of devotees visit the shrine from various parts of the country, and especially during the Navratra mela, this number rises to lakhs everyday for the nine auspicious days.

Government Museum & Art Gallery came into existence in the year 1968. It is a very famous tourist attraction place that houses magnificent Gandhara period stone sculptures. This museum is open except for Monday on all other days. The credit for the wonderful designing of this museum goes to Le Corbusier. Chandigarh Government Museum and Art Gallery is a perfect place for viewing the prehistoric fossils and artifacts. You can also find beautiful miniature paintings over here. The museum also has a spacious reference library to meet the intellectual needs of scholars and students. It houses a number of art galleries, which can be broadly classified as Gandhara and Hindu Sculptures, Miniature Paintings, Decorative Arts and Coins & contemporary art gallery.

HistoryEdit

Government Museum & Art Gallery in Chandigarh signify its existence during the partition of India. The artifacts being the objects, paintings, sculpture and decorative arts were initially kept in the then capital of Punjab, Lahore. The division that took place made the objects be divided, the 60% of which were retained as these were those objects that have been already mentioned in books and extracted from the sites that came in Punjab region. The remaining 40% that mainly constituted the sculptures of Gandhara and small paintings, tend to be in the share of East Punjab. The collection so received in 1949 was first bought to Amritsar and then later was moved to Shimla. Later in 1954, the so exhibits were shifted to Moti Bagh Palace situated in Patiala. However, in 1960 it was suggested that the museum should have its own building in Chandigarh. On being approved, the plan however got withheld in 1962 for some time and finally the Museum came into being on May 1968.The world famous Gandhara Sculptures are exhibited in the museum whose number is after to that of Lahore. The scholars and students may also fulfill their needs of knowledge through the well maintained library in Museum having a stock of 4600 books and references of arts and allied subjects.

But the best part about the rock garden is that each of its artwork has been made by using industrial & urban waste. It is located in Sector 1 between the Capitol Complex and Sukhna Lake. The credit for laying its foundation goes to Nek Chand, who was the then Road Inspector in the Engineering Department of Chandigarh Capital Project. Rock garden has been established in the form of an open-air exhibition hall. The garden houses sculptures made by using a variety of different discarded waste materials like frames, mudguards, forks, handle bars, metal wires, play marbles, porcelain, auto parts, broken bangles etc. Rock garden in Chandigarh, India is a unique creation and connoisseurs come from different parts of the world to see this amazing garden.
