Jumma Masjid was earlier known as Sangian Jamia Masjid. It is oldest mosque of Bangalore. The mosque is renowned for its beautiful architecture. The prayer hall of the Jumma Masjid stands on an elevated ground and stands adorned with soaring, ornate granite pillars. It is believed that the mosque was built somewhere around 1790. The brick and mortar structure of the masjid has an impressive facade, embellished with elaborate jali-work and floral motifs. Read on to know more about the Jumma Masjid of Bangalore, India. There are magnificent twin minarets inside the masjid that stretch upto the spherical domes above the balconies. These minarets have been ornamented with a graceful assembly of a large number of pigeonholes. Sri Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple was cut out of a rock somewhere around the ninth century. It was later renovated by Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore. Shri Gavi Gangadhareswara Temple of Bangalore houses a unique image of Agni, the God of Fire, probably the only one of its type in the entire South India. To the left of the main entrance, is a splendid image of Shakti Ganapathi, with 12 hands. There are four monolith pillars in the courtyard, which represent Damaru, Thrishula and two fans. A natural monolith rock formation, the Sri Gavi Gangadhareswara Temple of Bangalore is visited by thousands of devotees every year.

Sree Siddaganga Mutt is one of the oldest ashramas, which is dedicated to Shiva Yogi Siddapurushas. It was established during the 15th century by Sree Gosala Siddeshwara Swami. There is a Gurukula in this mutt, which provides education, shelter and food to around 8,000 poor children. This mutt has a school for blind, with more than 100 blind children enrolled already. These children are provided hostel facility along with free food and education. In 1962, the Sree Siddaganga Education Society was established, which currently manages more than 130 educational institutions. An annual Agricultural & Industrial Exhibition is organised at the mutt.

St. Mary’s Basilica is a gothic Church engineered by French architect in the form of a Cross. A 172 ft tall and 50 ft wide structure forms façade of the Church. Besides, the church boasts vaulted towers and arches decorated in Gothic style. Within the premises, there is a beautiful statue of Mother Mary, holding Child Jesus in her arms. Moreover, an attractive shrine is affixed outside the church. The 6 ft tall shrine is an object of veneration and source of inspiration for the people. The formation of the city is also interlinked with the history of the church. As per historians, Christians migrated from Ginjee (Tamil Nadu) on discovering soil fertility and suitability for rice cultivation. Oldest church of the city, St. Mary’s Basilica of Bangalore became the sixth Basilica in the year 1973.

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium attracts tourists from every walk of life. The Planetarium presents astronomical facts in an exciting way, which makes it easy for visitors to gather knowledge about stars, planets and astronomical facts, with dome diameter of 15.0 metres and seating capacity of 210, the planetarium organises shows to witness night sky, sky-theatre shows, constellation pictures and more. This landmark features a Science Centre and a Science Park. The Science Park within the planetarium premises exhibits models of DNA, Resonant Swings and Whispering Dishes. At the park, visitors can also see model of a Polar Satellite Launching Vehicle (PSLV), Sun Dial and Giant Kaleidoscope. Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE) along with Association of Bangalore Amateur Astronomers (ABAA) organises ‘Know Your Stars’ activity on first Sunday of every month. The activity features night simulation, lecture sessions and observation of astronomical objects using telescopes.
