Located not far from Nachana Haveli, this guest house is another chilled out cheapie that’s suited to backpackers and budget travelers. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and they love meeting and hanging out with new people.

Nachana Haveli has a regal past and a handy market location near the Fort. It was built in the 18th century by Maharaj Kesri Singh ji of Nachana, who was the then Maharawal of Jaisalmer, and is still owned by his descendants. Now turned into a hotel, it has 12 rooms set around two atmospheric courtyards. Each room is decorated with antique furniture and family portraits. The two suites offer stunning views of the Fort. Something to be aware of is that the rooftop restaurant is run separately to the hotel and the food is nothing to get excited about.

The Mystic Jaisalmer Hotel is another awesome value budget hotel that caters to backpackers. It moved to its current premises in 2012, and offers 15 rooms ranging from dormitory accommodations (five people in a room) to luxury rooms with private balconies overlooking the Fort. The rooms are clean, spacious and attractively decorated. If you’re interested in Bollywood, you’ll enjoy the nightly free movie screening on the rooftop terrace. Rates range from $5 for a dormitory up to $40 for a luxury room per night.

Hotel Shahi Palace is possibly the most popular budget hotel in Jaisalmer. Its location is fabulous, only a few minutes walk from the Fort. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, with a highlight being the bonfires that are lit on the rooftop in the evenings for travelers to sit and chat around. The traditionally decorated rooms, made out of Jaisalmer sandstone, are clean and comfortable. There are 16 to choose from, with different sizes and amenities to suit various budgets. The cheaper ones share a communal bathroom and don’t have windows. Shahi Palace also runs reputable camel safaris.

Another popular and beautifully decorated stone haveli-style hotel, Hotel Fifu is named after the congenial family that owns and manages it. The hotel is located around 15 minutes walk from the Fort, but don’t let that deter you from staying there. It has three cushioned terraces with magnificent views of the Fort. There are 11 rooms spread over three floors, and the north facing rooms also have views to the Fort from their window seats. The south facing rooms have desert views. Expect to pay around $50 for a room. The vegetarian Indian and Continental meals served on the rooftop restaurant are simple but good.

The very popular Hotel Pleasant Haveli receives near faultless reviews. It’s located around 5-10 minutes walk from the Fort. The hotel has nine uniquely themed rooms, each decorated in a different color. Its restaurant serves reasonably priced tasty food and the rooftop terrace is furnished with gorgeous bright cushioned sofas. Staff are attentive and caring. You definitely wont regret staying here! An added bonus is that the hotel provides high quality camel safaris that are genuine and not touristy.

Hotel Jeet Mahal was constructed in the 18th century by royal architect Jeetmal Bissa in his spare time. It’s been converted into a budget hotel with six rooms by his ancestors. They live next door, so it’s like staying in a family home. The location just outside the Fort gates is very handy, and the hotel’s intricate carved jharokhas (a type of overhanging enclosed balcony) are magnificent. However, the biggest draw card is the food at its restaurant, featuring authentic vegetarian Rajasthani cuisine.
