The museum building in a semicircular shape with 38 galleries, spread on two floors, displays only a part of the original collections. Each gallery is huge and has many artefacts on display including ones dated back to the 17th century.
There are Aurangzeb’s daggers belonging to empress Noor Jehan, emperors Jehangir and Shah Jehan, the turbans and chair of Tippu Sultan, furniture from Egypt, paintings on display. Among the sculptures stands out the world famous statue of Veiled Rebecca by G.B. Benzoni, an Italian sculptor, in 1876. Her beautiful face hazily is visible through a marble but gossamer veil. Equally captivating is a double-figure wood sculpture. It stands before a mirror and shows the facade of a nonchalant Mephistopheles and the image of a demure Margaretta in the mirror. The eastern section is of equal importance with its wide variety of silk weaving and different art forms, including layer wood cutting paintings, porcelain works and many more, dating back to almost 2nd century. The Museum has a famous Quran Collection from around the World in different fonts and designs. The Quran Written with Gold and Silver, There are many more collections of religious books,as well as Arabic Quran. HistoryEdit

Salar Jung Museum is famous for being the third- largest museum in the country, the museum boasts of having the largest antiques collection. Artefacts dating back to the first century can be found here. Established in 1951, the museum was under Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, better known as Salar Jung III. He spent most of his fortune into this museum acquiring priceless artifacts over the years. After his death, in the absence of any heir, the control of his estate along with the museum was taken over by the Indian government and later opened to the public. Personal collections of Salar Jung III, which is famous as the ‘biggest private collection’, are given their rightful place of respect in this museum. The museum was shifted to its current location from Salar Jung’s ancestral home. During the shifting, many of the antiques were stolen. Still whatever remains today is none the less impressive. From Jade daggers belonging to Emperor Jehangir, Noorjahan and Shah Jehan to the wardrobe of Tipu Sultan, you will find a lot of treasures among others on display. If these are not enough, be ready to be mesmerised by the statue of Veiled Rebecca by G.B. Benzoni or listen to the ticking of clocks in unison in the clock room. Another interesting feature is the Quran collection of the museum. In this collection, you will find a Quran made entirely of gold and another one made up of silver. The Indian Parliament has declared the museum an Institution of National Importance.

Begumpet Mosque

India /Telangana /Hyderabad /Hyderabad

Sardar Patel Rd, Indian Airlines Colony, Begumpet, Hyderabad. Edit

Detail InformationEdit

Begumpet Mosque or Spanish Mosque or the Paigah Mosque used to be a part of the sprawling Paigah estates in Begumpet. A gate was built on the side of the road so that common people could enter the premises. Around the same time, the walls were lowered. That was when one could actually see and appreciate the beauty of this mosque that is different from any of the mosques in Hyderabad. Inside the Begumpet Mosque, you can feel the rich, plush carpeting under your feet. High on the wall, you can see inscriptions in Turkish that, Faiz Khan says, are the only one-of-their-kind in India. The overhead dome is octagonal and the shape is repeated in the columns. The boundary walls of the courtyard insulate the faithful from the noise and bustle from outside. Different names of the Mosque The Spanish mosque is known as the Jama Masjid Iqbal ud Dowla after Sir Vikar-ul-Umra Iqbal ud Dowla. It is also known as the ‘Begumpet Masjid’ and the ‘Mosque of the Moors.’ Trivia about Spanish Mosque, the Paigah family is ranked next to the ruling family of Nizams. Of them Nawab Vikar-ul-Umra is best known for building some of the most elaborate palaces, state homes and mosques of Hyderabad–the Falaknuma Palace, the Paigah Palace in Begumpet, the Spanish Mosque and the Asafia Library in Afzalgunj are all products of his many sojourns in Europe.

Tomb of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shahi

Tomb of Sultan Abdullah Qutub Shahi

HistoryEdit

The first Qutb Shahi mosque of Hyderabad is the Masjid Safa at Golconda, that was built in 1846 during the Nizam rule. Built in 1518 AD, this is 75 years older than the Charminar. The mosque is a well-preserved structure and is very much in use. But little known to outsiders. The benedictory verse fixed in the prayer niche of the mosque expressed a hope of the founder of the kingdom Sultan Quli Qutbul Mulk, that his descendants would be honourable. In this mosque, 25 years after its erection Sultan Quli was assassinated by Mir Mahmud Hamadani, Qiladar of Golconda at the instigation of the heir apparent Yar Quli Jamshid.Jamshid, the second king built for himself a very beautifully proportioned tomb, one of the most beautiful structures in the whole Qutb Shahi tombs complex.
