The Thakurbari Temple was constructed on a land donated by the Chogyal of Sikkim in the year 1935. During the year 1945-47, the shrine was renowned to a major temple complex. Also, construction works began last year, for inclusion of a multipurpose hall and a library to the complex.

The Paljor Stadium is popularly known as Polo Ground. Chogyal named it around 1943 because Britishers and few members of aristocratic family of Sikkim played at the Polo Ground. While tracing the history of Paljor Stadium it is indeed very difficult to ascertain its origin. The old timers recall this flat piece of land being used by the Tibetan traders to station their herds of Sheep en route to the Sikkim and India. Around 1939 one of the Political Officers, Sir Basil Gould had sanctioned Rs.3000 (approx $75.2634)to the Forest Department and ordered that the grass demonstration farm be set up there. Kikuyu Grass from Africa and Venezuela grass were grown for the soil binding, The whole task was completed in April 1941. Later Paljor Stadium proved to be a major venue of all public meeting including those of Prime ministers and religious leaders. The ground as been hosting the Independence day and republic day celebrations and also all major atheistic events.

Kangchenjunga is that the third highest mountain in the world. It rises with an elevation of 8,586 m (28,169 ft) in a section of the Himalayas known as Kangchenjunga Himal that is restricted in the west by the Tamur river and in the east by the Teesta river. The Kangchenjunga Himal is found in eastern Nepal and sikkim, India. Kangchenjunga is that the highest peak in india, and the east of the peaks higher than 8,000 m (26,247 ft). it’s known as five Treasures of Snow after its five high peaks, and has continuously been adored by the people of Darjeeling and sikkim. the main peak of Kangchenjunga is that the second highest mountain in Nepal after Everest. three of the five peaks – Main, Central and South – are on the border between North sikkim and Nepal. 2 peaks area unit in Taplejung District, Nepal.

Kangchenjunga was assumed until 1852, to be the highest mountain in the world, but calculations based on various readings and measurements made by the Great Trigonometric Survey of India in 1849 came to the conclusion that Mount Everest, known as Peak XV at the time, was the highest. Allowing for further verification of all calculations, it was officially announced in 1856 that Kangchenjunga is the third-highest mountain. Kangchenjunga was first climbed on 25 May 1955 by Joe Brown and George Band, who were part of a British expedition. They stopped short of the summit as per the promise given to the Maharaja of Sikkim that the top of the mountain would remain inviolate. Every climber or climbing group that has reached the summit has followed this tradition. Other members of this expedition included John Angelo Jackson and Tom Mackinon.

Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple, Gangtok

There is very interesting legend behind this temple. This shrine is built in memory of Baba Harbhajan Singh, a sepoy of the 23rd Punjab Regiment, who actually went missing about 35 years ago, while leading bunch of mules to Deng Dhukla, a remote area in East Sikkim. Following this, a manhunt was conducted to look for the Baba’s body which was found three days later. It is said that they could find in for he himself led them towards the body and also, one of his colleagues began dreaming about Baba and was instructed by the Baba himself to build a temple in his memory. That is when the temple came into existence.
