Holy Rosary Church is dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary, and is situated on the western side of Kundapur town and in the north side of the Mangalore Diocese and coastal Karnataka State. The Holy Rosary Church has an altar made of ornamental wooden
carvings and which is decorated with tiles and a beautiful bell tower in front. The Church runs an orphanage and two schools namely St Joseph s High School and St Joseph s Higher Secondary School.

Holy Rosary Church, is established 1682. In 1982 the parishioners has celebrated Tri Centenary remarks it long spiritual life of Christianity. The parish was founded by Ver. Rev. Fr. Joseph Vaz, who is beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1998. Kundapura parish dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary, has inspired life of her lovers around Kundapura Christianity. The church excised even before the demolition of churches by Tipu Sultan but had to be rebuilt in the year 1757.

Uppinakudru Island site was once associated with the trading of seafood and salt. It has many popular temples among which, is the famous Lord Gopala Krishna Temple. The Lord Vasudeva Temple is regarded as one of the oldest temples of this site. The temple is dedicated to a local deity..The Siddi Vinayaka Temple is another temple in Uppinakudru and the main deity of this temple is Lord Ganesha. During the British rule, the idols of Indian Gods and Goddesses were sold at high prices in the foreign market. Local people started stealing and hiding the idols in bundles of tobacco. During one such event, an idol of Lord Ganapathi fell from a bundle and the place where it fell became the site of the Siddi Vinayaka Temple. The Lord Lakshminarayana Mutt is also situated in the village of Uppinakudru, along with other mutts like the Gopinath Mutt, Ishwar Mutt, Devi Mutt and Ganapathi Mutt.

Kundeswara Temple is the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva who is known as Lord Kundeshwara. The presiding deity is a black stone garbhagriha idol, which is a 4 ft high Shiva Linga. One-third of the Shiva Linga appears on a pedestal and the remaining is buried beneath it. The temple also has shrines to Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha. The main festival of the Kundeshwara Temple is the ‘Kundeshwara Deepotsava’.

Coin Museum Corp Bank is one of the famous heritage museums in India which provides information about banking history since its inception in 1906. The founder president of the bank was Mr Haji Abdullah Sahib which has now been converted into a heritage museum. The bank wishes the museum to become a ‘Financial temple’ for the visitors. When you go through the collection at the museum you will find that due attention has been paid in collecting and displaying coins of ancient times and medieval times. The museum boasts of having more than 1,360 coins of different countries hailing from different periods. The coins belong to dynasties such as the Mauryas, the Kushans, the Satavahanas, the Western Kshatraps and that of the Gupta dynasty. One can find coins from the Mughal era and from the perod of rulers like Akbar, Jahangir, Shahjahan, Aurangzeb and even from the Vijaynagara rulers as well as the Maratha confederacy.

Ananteshwar Temple is an important shrine located near Udupi. Though it is in Kerala, it is popular among devotees from Karnataka too. This is again one of the ancient temples in South India. The origin of the temple dates back to more than 1000 years. The temple is enclosed by hills on three sides and the river Manjeshwar flows across the other side. There are three main deities in the temple namely Sri Ananta, Sri Iswar (Siva) and Lord Bhadra Narasimha (avatar of Lord Vishnu). Since the 12th century, the temple has become an important pilgrimage center for the followers of Lord Vishnu.

Chandramoulishwar Temple is an ancient temple, and a peaceful temple with Lord Chandramoulishwara as its deity. Along with the Ananteshwara temple, both these temples won’t be crowded, and it will get you a peaceful time. The name Udupi is derived from this temple as God Chandra (moon) has worshiped Eswara here as per the history.

HistoryEdit

The Chandramouleshwara Temple in Udupi was constructed below the ground level. It must have been constructed on a lake-bed. This temple is said to have been built after the construction of the Anantheshwara Temple. Legend has it that the Lord Chandra (moon) did penance at this spot to appease Lord Shiva. The architecture of this temple dates back to the seventh or eighth century A.D.

Air : Mangalore International Airport is 59 km from Udupi. The airport is well-connected with major Indian cities and a few Middle-eastern destination. Prepaid taxis can be booked from the counter located inside the arrival terminal at ₹780 (as on 14-Jun-2008). They take approximately 1.5 hours to reach.

St. Mary’s Island is a collection of small islands in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Malpe in Udupi district. It is said that in the year 1498, “Vasco Da Gama” landed on his voyage from Portugal to India and the name of one of these islands “El Padron de Santa María”. This is how the islands have got their current name. These islands are just rock projections arising out of the sea near Malpe. The St. Mary’s Island beach is special for the unique formation of basalt rocks that have crystallized into whole columns and split into vertical hexagonal blocks. The west coast of these islands is a haven of shellfish with shells of various shapes and sizes littered along the coast. The island is 300 m long and 100 m wide and has a few palm trees.
