Showcasing exquisite royal collection of sculptures, lamps and antiques, palanquin, jewel boxes, engravings upon palm leaves, statues etc constitute the rich collection of articles on display. The chief attraction however is the Chituvilakku (rock cut lamps)-the only of its kind laid out in a row which are regarded as rarest of rare in Kerala. You could get in any House Boat of your liking, saunter down the cool placid waters of our world-famous backwaters, have a merry time and get back home either the same day or after spending a night as well out floating around.
You will enjoy the lovely home-made-like food served on board, appreciate the fine level of hospitality and you will go back home a new rejuvenated person altogether. That’s what a cruise along the backwaters in a House Boat can do to you, to your wife and children – or to you and your close friends or corporate colleagues.
The real attraction is the way KERALA.COM is arranging those magnificent and enjoyable House Boat trips for the convenience of the tourists/holiday seekers. House Boats are huge, slow moving, exotic barges designed for sheer leisure trips. Formerly, House Boat were used to ship rice and spices and other goods between Kuttanad and the Cochin port. It was a three-day affair those days. A standard House Boat, which could be about 100 feet long, can hold up to 30 tons, and that is as much as three big lorries can.

HistoryEdit

St.Dominic’s Cathedral (the Puthenpally) and St.Mary’s Church (Kanjirappally Pazhayapally): brief history is, the Old Church (St.Mary’s Church) and the market nearby have been constructed on a piece of land donated by the erstwhile King of Thekkemcore Sri. Veerakerala Perumal who was ruling the eastern areas including Kanjirappally on the 21st of Medam in the year K.V.624. (K V is for Malayalam year Kolla Varsham). On this plot the location of the Church building was decided by the King himself by planting a green stick on the chosen spot. So for those Christains who migrated from Nilakkal 100 years ago under the leadership of an elderly man named Thommi, who was also the trustee of the Nilakkal curch, got a church for the first time. They had to leave Nilakkal due to attack of burglars, spread of deadly virus diseases and wild insects called Vakri puli perumpatta. Until the new church was consecrated those people were going to the curch in Aruvithura (Erattupetta) for worship and their spiritual needs.
