The Museum was inaugurated by the then Home Minister of India late Y.B.Chavan, with blessings from Shrimant Chatrapati Sumitraraje Bhosale.The museum mainly constructed to reveal the varied culture of 17th and 18th Century. Sajjangad fort was made by Bahamani Emperors in between (1347-1527). After that in (1527-1686) it came under Adilshah dynasty. Mughal king defeated Adilshah and the fort came under Mughal rule. Previously known as Parali, it was renamed to Sajjangad after Shivaji Maharaj requested Shri Ramdas Swami to set up his permanent monastery. It was built by the Shilahar family in between 10th and 11th century AD. Sajjangarh Fort is also famous for the mausoleum of Samarth Ramdas.

Koyna Dam plays a vital role of flood controlling in monsoon season. The spillway of the dam is located at the center. It has 6 radial gates. The main purpose of dam is to provide hydroelectricity with some irrigation in neighboring areas.Today the Koyna. Hydroelectric Project is the largest completed hydroelectric power plant in India[2] having a total installed capacity of 1,920 MW. Due to its electricity generating potential Koyna river is considered as the ‘life line of Maharashtra’.

Kalyangad Fort,  Satara is the most spectacular place on the fort. This gallery is 30m deep. There is water on both sides of the way inside it. On both sides of path there are iron rods at the end of the gallery. It is dangerous to go inside in rainy seasons. After seeing the gallery you should come back to the first door. The path, made up of steps, leads us to the door facing east. On entering the fort by this path we come across the temple of Lord Hanuman. There is a Bamanghar to left where we may find any hermit meditating. In front of the Bamanghar, there is a memorial of Kalyan Swami, who was a disciple of Ramdas Swami. There is a ruined temple of Shree Ganesh and a big lake ahead. A few steps ahead are the remnants of palaces. After going straight from this way for 10 minutes we reach to eastern part of the fort. From this point, we can see Jaranda, Ajinkyatara, Yavateshwar, Chandan, Vandan, Morya and Vairatgad. It takes approximately half an hour to watch the top of the fort.

Kalyangad Fort

Kalyangad is also known by ‘Nandgiri fort’ This fort was built by Shilahar king Bhoj-II as mentioned in the copper plate which found in the satara. This fort may be built in between 1178 to 1209. It has been proved that this fort built by Shilahar kings, as many statues of lord Parshwanath are found in the caves of kalyangad. In 1673 Shivaji Maharaj conquered the Satara and surrounding region. The kayangad was part of these. After Shivaji, the administration of this fort went in hand of representatives. Later, confilcts arose between peshwas and representatives. This fort won by Peshwa. In 1818 General Prisler took the fort in British control.
