Nagphani (Duke’s Nose), later known as Duke’s Nose after Duke Wellington, is a cliff at Khandala near Lonavala. The Cliff is pointed like a snakes pointed head portion (hood) and hence the name Nagphani (Nag means snake and phani means hood). The name Dukes’nose is derived as the cliff looked like the shape of the Duke. This is a marvelous picnic spot nearby Lonavala. Adventurous trekking is highly essential to reach the Duke’s nose and the view of the downhill plains from this point is mind boggling.

Bhaja Caves is placed on one side there is Lohagad fort on other side Visapur fort and approximately in the center are Bhaja Caves. They are similar to Karla Caves but are on a much smaller scale. This caves are also in Chaitya style.
The speciality of these caves is that the rays of the setting sun visit these caves. On the southern side, there is a place where one can see carved figures of Gods and Goddesses. Within the cave, there are several monasteries that house carved images of deities. A nave and aisle, with an apse containing a solid stupa and the aisle circling round the apse, providing the circumambulation path, is also present in the caves.

Narayani Dham has a main temple of Shri Rani Sati Dadi, and other temples of Shri Ganesh with Shiv Parivar, Shri Hanumanji, Shri Radha Krishna, along with Shri Pitreshvarji. The Temple trust also undertakes projects towards social cause. During drought situation in Rajasthan, donation was given to arrange food for cows. With the availability of funds and depending on the need, Trust takes the decision to undertake projects. More than 300 people visit the temple everyday. There is Dadi Mangal on every Krushna Paksha Navami followed by bhajans and Mahaprasad for all devotees. Temple celebrates Bhadi Amavas, Ganesh Festival, Navaratri, Janmashtami, Hanuman Jayanti, Deepavali with full enthusiasm. The temple also has a Hall sufficient enough to host more than 10000 devotees. It also has a lodging facility with 5 bedrooms with attached toilets so that the devotees coming from long distance can stay and take rest. Temple also has separate Kitchen and Dinning area for devotees.

The work of the Narayani Dham with “Bhumi Pujan” on 9th Feb, 2000 and actual start of “Mandir Nirman” on 17th May 2000. The construction work began under the valuable guidance of Shri Mahendra Mittal, Shri Ramesh Patodiya, Shri Mukesh Patodiya and Shri Shyam Goyal. Initially the plan was to build a small temple but with the overwhelming response from more than 425 Agrawal families it has taken a bigger shape. Due care was taken for the Establishment of deities. Shri Dadiji’s Vigraha, Brick and Jyoti was brought from Jhunjhnu temple. Brick and Jyot from temple at Salasar was brought for Hanumanji temple, Shri Shyam Baba Jyot was brought from Khatu. Shivling was brought from Omkareshwar. Asta Vinayak around Pune region was visited to bring soil, brick and sand for Shri Ganesh temple. The function of Pran Pratishta (Murti Sthapana) started with a big procession on 14th Feb 2002. On the auspicious day of 22nd Feb 2002, Pran Pratishta was conducted as per Vedic rituals by the famous Shri Govindacharya Dixit from Varanasi.

Tunga Fort is considered to be one of the most difficult Fort to trek, and this challenge itself is enough to fire the bellies of all the trekkers out there. All the Corporates and executives in Mumbai and Pune should just grab this opportunity and visit the Fort. Though, it becomes very slippery in monsoons but the real fun of this trek is in Monsoons only. The fort depicts the excellent architecture acumen of the Marathas, being at the highest point the fort was used to monitor and administer all the neighboring forts. This fort was a sort of capital and control point for Marataha empire. At the top of the fort there is a Mahadev Temple which shows the deep faith of Marathas in Lord Shiva.an old fort now turned into ruin, like the worn stairs, depleted gates, a water reservoir etc. All this just takes us to the golden memories of this Fort when this Fort would have been in full splendor.

Tunga Fort, Lonavala

Tung Fort is small, not being able to hold more than 200 troops at a time. As such, it would not have been able to defend itself on its own for a long time.Tung Fort was built before 1600 CE. It was built by the Adil Shahi dynasty but was captured by Shivaji.Its shape and structure suggests that its main function was as a watchtower guarding the road to Pune city. Dhamale family one of the Deshmukh from maval region was charged with ensuring the security of fort tung. During invasion, it served to provide a temporary distraction for invaders. Thus, the major forts of Visapur and Lohagad would have time to ready themselves (to meet the invading army).This fort served as a watch tower in the past because it from top of the fort,lot of area Maval region of Pawana and Mulshi valley can be seen and thus from the top of the fort,watch on these areas can be kept.
