Ambad is a municipal town and Tahsil & it appears that once it enjoyed great prosperity, the marks of which are still seen in the decayed stone buildings and ruined walls and gateways. A local tradition ascribes the foundation of the town to a Hindu Raja by name Amba Rishi who being weary of the cares of running the Government went and settled in a cave in a hill to the east of the town. This site is now occupied by a shrine dedicated to Goddess Matsyodari, so called because the hill resembles the shape of a fish (matsya). It is believed to be one of the oldest temples in the region. A largely attended annual fair is held at the temple in October during Navratra. Ambad situated between a ridge of hills in 19o35’15” north latitude and 75o50’7″ east longitude is the headquarters of the tahsil of the same name. It lies along Jalna-Gevrai road the former place being the principal commercial centre in the Marathvada region.

The city of Jalna has a number of Dargah’s like the Shah Nasir-ud-din and Shah Latif Kadari Dargah, which was constructed in memory of the two saints after whom the Dargah is named, during the time of Burhanuddin. Another popular Dargah is the Dargah of Zacha and Bacha, which looks very similar to the Pathan Kings’ tombs located in Delhi. This Dargah is square in shape and is bounded by a verandah.
Dargah of Jan Alla Shah built in A.D 1681 is equally popular. It is a 20 ft square rooms covered with a dome. The four corners of the Dargah are constructed in a hexagonal form that rises to form minarets. The minarets carry four small towers, with each tower having a dome and a spire.
And lastly, there is the Dargah of Nur Shah Wali, which is built with a dome that resembles Indo-Saracenic style. The outside faces of the walls have two storeys that are divided by horizontal band. Again, each storey is divided to form three compartments with the help of pilasters. These pilasters ultimately form minarets as they rise above the protruding cornice.

Jamb Samarth, the place where the Sant Ramdas swami born. This place is in Ghansavangi tahsil of Jalna district. The Samartha Ramdas was born on Chaitra Shukla Navami Shake 1530 (as per hindu Calender) at 12 P.M., exactly on the time of Ram Janma (Lord Rama’s birth) as the younger son of Suryajipant Thosar Kulkarni and Ranubai. His actual name was ‘Narayan’.

The Elder brother of Sant Ramdas swami was Gangadhar but he is known as ‘Shreshtha’ or ‘Rami Ramdas’. He was born on Margashirsha Vadhya Trayodashi Shake 1527. A largely attended annual fair helds at the Ram temple on Ram Navami. This Ram temple is situated in Sant Ramdas swami’s home. The Samrtha temple is built in the memory of Sant Ramdas swami. This temple is managed by a trust which was registered in 1943 by Nanasaheb Dev. The trust comprises 55 members and 11 trusties. Now this trust has its onw land of 240 Hector. The facility of lodging bording is available by trust. This building is built in the donation received by Mother queen Holkar of Indore in the memory of Shri Devi Ahilyabai Holkar.

The Anandi Swami Temple in Jalna was built by the Maratha warrior Mahadji Shinde on the place where Shri Sant Anand Swami was buried in old Jalna. The temple is said to be 250 years old. A fair takes place every year on Ashadi Ekadashi where a large number of devotees attend the fair.
