The Navegaon Wildlife Sanctuary located in Navegoan, Gondia is one of the most popular forest resorts in the Vidarbha region. The Park is spread over an area of 135 sq kms. A picturesque lake with crystal clear water, stretching over an area of 11 sq. kms is set in the midst of hill ranges and can be approached through a series of winding trails. Strategically located, watch towers enable the visitor to Navegaon to catch a glimpse of the region’s varied wildlife. It consists of a deer park, an aviary and three beautifully landscaped gardens. Flora : The forest is typical Southern mixed dry deciduous forest. The main species are Teak, Haldu, Jamun, Kawat, Mahua, Ain, Bhel and Bhor, etc.
Avifauna : Navegaon National ParkAlmost 60% of all bird species recorded in Maharashtra are visible at Navegaon. The experience and the excitement of having spotted the scarlet minivet, a paradise fly catcher or the sapphire blue flash of a kingfisher skimming the surface of the lake for fish is quite out of the world.
Fauna : Though Navegaon is better known as a bird sanctuary, a number of wild animals could also be sighted. Tigers, Panthers, Bisons, Sambars, Nilgais, Chitals, Wild boars, Sloth Bears, and Wild Dogs are main wild life species in this national park.
Other Attractions : One can also join the Jungle Safari and stroll through the beautiful forest, crossing paths with Leopards, Sloth Bears, Gaurs, Sambars, Chitals and Langoors. Staying in the unique treetop house, riding a power or sailboat on the lake, are also some thrilling pastimes one can enjoy over here. Nearly 50,000 tourists visit this tourist complex annually.

Legend of Navegaon Lake : There is an interesting legend about Navegaon Lake. Kolu Patel Kohli created the lake at the beginning of the 18th century. He is now defined as “Kolasur Deo” and his shrine is on one of the peaks surrounding the lake. The seven peaks surrounding the lake are known as the “Sat Bahini” or seven sisters. It is believed that these deities helped Kolu in building the lake. On the fringe of the lake is an idol of Hanuman, the deity of strength, whose feet are said to go below the embankment. The island in the middle of the lake is known as “Maldonger” and was used by the villagers as a refuge from the marauding ‘Pindaris’ (A tribe of professional robbers). The area around the lake is known as the Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, in memory of the noted ornithologist. Best time to visit this sanctuary is between October to June and every winter, the Navegaon Lake becomes the home to huge flocks of migrating ducks and the misty winter mornings are characterized by their loud calls.

It is raining wildlife sanctuaries in forest and biodiversity-rich Vidarbha. With state government showing interest, Bhandara forest division has prepared a proposal for 92 sq km Koka wildlife sanctuary, just 20km from Bhandara. In the last two years since November 2010, government has notified at least five wildlife sanctuaries – Mansinghdeo, New Bor, New Nagzira, Navegaon and Umred-Karhandla. Koka will be sixth. Koka is a dense forest and has rich wildlife including tigers and leopards besides wolves and herbivores like gaurs, chitals and sambars. The area also has some natural water bodies and supports dispersing populations from Nagzira and New Nagzira.

According to Prafulla Bhamburkar, manager of Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), Koka was declared a reserve forest in 1879. It was a shooting block during the Raj era. “The area has good prey base. If similar protection is granted to Lendezari-Gaimukh then entire Pench corridor would be protected,” Bhamburkar felt. The committee on ‘Rationalization of boundaries of PAs’ has already asked the state to increase protected area (PA) network in lieu of reduction of 8,496 sq km Great Indian Bustard (GIB) sanctuary in Nanaj in Solapur to 1,222.61 sq km.

Taxi : Taxis are generally very hard to get during peak hours (Mon-Fri 7:00am – 9:30am and Mon-Sat 5:00pm – 8:00pm) and on rainy days. If you are at a hotel, have conceirge call you a taxi. If you are out about town and have access to a cell phone- calling for a taxi will cut your wait time by 20 to 30 minutes. All taxis are fitted with meters; all are air conditioned; the majority of the taxis are 5-seaters; about 90% of taxis have radiophones; call booking is done via GPS or digital voice dispatch. All passengers must fasten their seat belts by law.
For taxi Booking fee is SGD $2.3. Minimum fare for taxi is SGD $3 for first 1Km. Fare above minimum fare until 10Km is SGD $0.55 per Km. Fare above 10Km is charge SGD $0.628 per Km. Taxi Waiting charges per hour is SGD $17.6. Peak Hours charges is diffrent.

Bus : Public buses run daily from 5.30am to midnight. Extended night services cost slightly more (a flat rate ranging from $1.50-$3.00). Otherwise, most fares depend on distance travelled and range from 67 cents to $1.58 for air-conditioned comfort (almost all public buses in Singapore have air-conditioning today). There are also “feeder” bus services that charge a flat rate of 67 cents. Each bus should not take more than 15 to 20 minutes to arrive at the bus stop.

Train : Singapore MRT system is very well connected to different parts of Singapore and very clean! If you have the time and plan to explore around little Sunny island, get the the Singapore Tourist Pass!
It runs 6am-12mn, fares start at S$1 (70cents in EZ link). Tickets can be purchased in all MRT stations. You just have to insert your money through the ticket machine. Rush hour’s usually 7am-9am, 11am-2pm and 4pm-7pm.

Air : Changi Airport is the country’s main airport. From the airport there are a number of ways to get into the city:
Taxi is easiest – simply follow the signs after clearing customs. Meters are always used in Singapore and prices are reasonable. A trip to the city during the day will be between $20-$30 including $3-5 airport surcharge. An additional 50% surcharge applies between midnight and 06:00.
Limousines charge a flat $50 to anywhere in the city and are a pretty good deal after midnight, as you can skip the queue and avoid the surcharge. The same pricing applies to chartering van-sized MaxiCabs, which are good for large families or if you have lots of baggage.

Holland Village was named after Holland Road which in turn was named after Hugh Holland in 1907. Hugh Holland, who was an architect and an amateur actor, was an early resident. The roads ‘Holland Avenue’, ‘Holland Close’ and ‘Holland Drive’ were officially named after the principal road in 1972. Holland Road is known as hue hng au in Hokkien, meaning “behind the flower garden”. The “flower garden” refers to the Botanic Gardens.

The bridge has a unique wave-form made up of seven undulating curved steel “ribs” that alternately rise over and under its deck. The curved “ribs” form alcoves that function as shelters with seats within and also to accommodate large number of people during public events.Slats of yellow balau wood, an all-weather timber found in South-East Asia, are used in the decking. The Housing and Development Board (Abbreviation: HDB; Simplified Chinese: 建屋发展局; Malay: Lembaga Pembangunan dan Perumahan; Tamil: வீடமைப்பு வளர்ச்சிக் கழகம்) is the statutory board of the Ministry of National Development responsible for public housing in Singapore. It is generally credited with clearing up the squatters and slums of the 1960s and resettling residents into low-cost state-built housing.

Shortly after being granted self-governance, Singapore faced a serious problem of housing shortages; low construction rates and massive damage from World War II further exacerbated the prewar housing shortage. In 1947, the British Housing Committee Report noted Singapore had “one of the world’s worst slums — ‘a disgrace to a civilised community'”, and the average person per building density was 18.2 by 1947. High-rise buildings were also rare. In 1959, the problem of shortage remained. An HDB paper estimated that in 1966, 300,000 people lived in squatter settlements in the suburbs and 250,000 lived in squalid shophouses in the Central Area. [2] In its election campaign in 1959, the People’s Action Party (PAP) recognized that housing required urgent attention and pledged that it would provide low-cost housing for the poor if it was selected. When it won the elections and formed the newly elected government, it took immediate action to solve the housing shortage. The government passed the Housing and Development Act of 1960 which replaced the existing Singapore Improvement Trust with the Housing and Development Board.

Haw Par Villa (Chinese: 虎豹別墅; pinyin: Hǔ Bào Biéshù) is a theme park located along Pasir Panjang Road, Singapore. The park contains over 1,000 statues and 150 giant dioramas depicting scenes from Chinese mythology, folklore, legends, history, and illustrations of various aspects of Confucianism.

The park, originally called “Tiger Balm Gardens”, was built in 1937 by the Burmese brothers Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par, the developers of Tiger Balm, as a venue for teaching traditional Chinese values. They moved their business from Burma (Myanmar) to Singapore in 1926 and purchased the site in 1935.In 1988, the Singapore Tourism Board took charge of the Tiger Balm Gardens and renamed it “Haw Par Villa Dragon World”. The “Haw Par” in the park’s name are based on the Aw brothers’ personal names – “Haw” and “Par”, which literally mean “tiger” and “leopard”. The dioramas and statues were restored, while plays, acrobatic displays, and puppet shows were organised and held there. The management imposed entrance fees but the high fees discouraged visitors, so the management incurred a loss of S$31.5 million after 10 years. The park management made profit during its first year of operations after renovations in 1994, broke even in 1995, but started making losses over the next three years and was forced to provide free entry in 1998. In March 2001, the Singapore Tourism Board renamed it “Tiger Balm Gardens” and entrance fees dropped.[1] The park is now open every day from 9am to 7pm and admission is free.

Masjid Hajjah Fatimah (Malay for Hajjah Fatimah Mosque; Chinese: 哈贾•法蒂玛回教堂) is a mosque located along Beach Road in the Kampong Glam district within the Kallang Planning Area in Singapore. The mosque was completed in 1846. The mosque represented a mix of local Islamic and European architecture, having been designed by colonial architect John Turnbull Thomson. The mosque was named after a lady of the same name, who was a weathly donor to the building.Hajjah Fatimah was born in Malacca and married a Bugis prince. After his death, she became a businesswoman of great wealth. In the 1830s, while she was away from home, thieves burgled her house and set it on fire. To demonstrate her gratitude to divine providence for having spared her life, Hajjah Fatimah donated money and the land where her residence had stood to build a mosque that was eventually named after her.Hajjah Fatimah Mosque was designed by an unknown British architect. However, because the minaret resembles the steeple of St Andrew’s Cathedral, the designer is believed to be John Turnbull Thompson. The mosque was built between 1845 and 1846 by French contractors supported by Malay labourers.

Shuttle – Shared six-seater MaxiCab shuttle service to designated areas/hotels costs $7 and can be booked in advance or in the arrivals hall. 6AM-2AM, every 15-30 min.
Subway – MRT trains run from a station between T2 and T3, but you’ll need to change trains at Tanah Merah to a city-bound train: just exit through the left hand side door and cross the platform. The 30 min ride to City Hall station costs $1.90 plus a refundable $1 deposit, and trains run 05:31-23:18.
Bus – Bus terminals can be found in the basements of T1, T2 and T3. 06:00-23:59 only. Fares are less than $2.00, exact fare required (no change given) if you pay cash.
