Austrheim is a municipality in the county of Hordaland, Norway. Austrheim was separated from Lindås on 1 January 1910. Fedje was separated from Austrheim on 1 January 1947. The westernmost point of mainland Norway lies in the municipality .
The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the farm Austrheim (Norse Austrheimr), since the first church was built there. The first element is austr which means “east” and the last element is heimr which means “homestead” or “farm”. Until 1889, the name was written Østereim.The coat-of-arms is from 1989. The three bows represent the many bridges in the municipality.The Mongstad complex, the largest oil port and refinery in Norway, is responsible for about 70% of all wet bulk.
