“The Australian Museum is the oldest museum in the country. Apart from being a prominent cultural attraction in Sydney, it is also a center information, research, education and resources. It was originally called the Colonial Museum or Sydney Museum but it was renamed Australian Museum in 1836. The present day museum was founded in 1845 by Earl Bathurst who was the Secretary of States for the Colonies. At present the museum is located on College Street, Sydney.
This historical building is made of sand stone and is home to numerous exhibits related to natural history, anthropology as well as mineralogy and paleontology. The center is also involved in studies, researches and community programs. The exhibits at the museum also include fossils, meteorites and gemstones. It is also home to representative native Australian fauna like mammals, birds, reptiles and fish.”
