Auroville (also known as the City of Dawn), is a town where different nationalities and cultures meet. It is a township which is home to people from about 50 different countries and is widely regarded as a global town. Easily accessible by road, Auroville City stands as an epitome of cultural harmony and community living. Founded by Mirra Alfassa, who is more popularly known as The Mother, Auroville City was initiated as a project of Sri Aurobindo Society in the year 1968. The idea behind the setting up of this city was to create a universal space where men and women of all nationalities and cultures could live in harmony, thereby realizing harmony and progress. Auroville City comprises of different zones such as the Peace Area, Industrial Zone, Residential Zone, International Zone, Cultural Zone and Green Belt. The chief attraction of the city is Matrimandir which draws visitors with its architectural grandeur. Auro Beach is also located in proximity to the city and serves as an excellent unwinding spot to travelers and tourists.
