The ornithologist Park Historic District is found on 5 blocks within the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, ny town, between West one hundred fifty five Street and West 158th Street, and between street and Edward M. Morgan Place on the east and Riverside Drive West on the west. It consists of nineteen giant lodging buildings and one duplex, and abuts the ornithologist Terrace Historic District on the southeast.
It is named for naturalist John James ornithologist, World Health Organization purchased twenty acres of land there in 1841, at a time once the world was still largely farms, dry land and therefore the country estates of the wealthy. When his death, the estate was sold-out off in parcels for development by Audubon’s widow, that is once it became referred to as “Audubon Park”. The world was selected associate historic district by the ny town Landmarks Preservation Commission on might twelve, 2009.
