Auckland Grammar School is a state secondary school for years 9 to 13 boys in Auckland, New Zealand. It had a roll of 2461 as of June 2011, including a number of boarders who live in nearby Tibbs’ House, making it the sixth-largest school in New Zealand, and the largest single-sex school. It is widely regarded as one of the top secondary schools in New Zealand, regularly having academics place in the top percentile in the country as well as winning numerous national sports titles every year.
The school was established in 1850 by the then Governor-in-Chief, Sir George Grey, and was officially recognised as an educational establishment in 1868 through the Auckland Grammar School Appropriation Act.
