Detail InformationEdit

The Assumption Church was built by the Bavarian master builder Abraham Millauer between 1723 – 1728 to replace an old gothic church which was falling down because of damages caused by lighting and floods.
The stucco-framed frescoes which adorn the vaults are the early works of the Kitzbühel painter Simon Benedikt Faistenberger. The monumental high altar and the chancel were designed by Anton Gigl in stucco marble. All altarpieces were made by Jacob Zanussi, the royal painter of the Salzburg Archbishops. The high altarpiece shows the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, as well St. Johann´s two patron saints, John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. The side altars are dedicated to St. Francis and Johannes Nepomuk, the two miners´ patrons St. Barbara and St. Daniel, and St. Dominikus. The right side altar boasts a beautiful gothic sitting Madonna dating from around 1450. The four bells in the church´s southern belfry were cast in 1948, while the large bell in the northern belfry dates from the baroque period (1777).
