Asansol is a commercial city that is situated in the state of West Bengal, in the Bardhaman district. It is one of the biggest cities in the state and has a well developed infrastructure. There are a few places that you can visit in the city of Asansol and these include parks, religious sites and dams. Some of the main parks in the city of Asansol are the Nehru Park and the Satabdi Park. The Satabdi Park is a popular place and many families can be seen here in the evenings. Tourites can opt for boating and paddling in the small water body that is present here. Joychandi Pahar is a picnic spot that is present here and this is a good place for a day trip. It is located about 30 kilometers from the town and one can engage in activities such as rock climbing in the area. You can also visit the two dams that are situated near the town and they are the Panchet Dam and Maithon Dam. These are good options for day trips and for sightseeing. Kalyaneshwari Temple is present near the Maithon Dam and is worth visiting as well. Other tourist places include Churulia and Manoj Talkies. The city of Asansol experiences four main seasons and they are summer, monsoon, autumn and winter seasons. Summers are hot and humid and the conditions are similar to the climate of the rest of the state. Monsoons are extensive and rainfall is constant during this period. Autumn season is very short and this is a good time to travel to the place. Winters are mild and day temperatures are ideal for visiting.

HistoryEdit

Asansol was inhabited by the Dravidian and Austroloids in the beginning. Around two thousand five hundred years ago, it became the centre for Jain activity. Mahavira Vardhamana, the last Tirthankar of Jain religion worked here for some time. During those time the district came to be known as Bardhaman. In later years the area became part of Vishnupur Kingdom. Asansol witnessed the rule of different kingdoms at different points of time.

By Air : There is no airport in Asansol. The nearest airport is situated in the city of Kolkata and this is the most feasible option for travelers who are planning to arrive by air. The Kolkata Airport is an international airport and there are frequent flights from cities such as Bangkok, Frankfurt, Paro, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Singapore and Yangon. Domestic flights are available from cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad. You can opt for a taxi or bus from Kolkata to reach the city of Kolkata.

By Train : The Asansol railway station is on the Delhi to Howrah route and many trains from different parts of the country pass through the station. There are frequent trains from Delhi (Sdah Rajdhaniex), Kolkata (Chambal Express), Mumbai (Hwh Mumbai Mail) to Asansol. Auto rickshaws and taxis are available from the station to any part of the city.

By BUS : Government buses connect the town to most of the cities in the state and one can reach the place from Kolkata and Howrah. Tickets are affordable and these are frequent. Some private buses are also available.

By Taxi : Asansol is well connected by a road network and national highways. The tourist can reach to Asansol by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.
