Archaeological Museum (Hill Palace Museum), a former residence of the Cochin royal family, is today an impressive archaeological museum, located 12 kms outside the city on the Eranakulam Chotanikkara route. During museum opening times, horseback riding excursions through the beautiful grounds and surrounding countryside can be taken. Apart from the very smallest children, all age groups can participate.

Archaeological Museum (Hill Palace Museum) was built in 1865 by the Maharaja Of Cochin and is now the largest archaeological museum in Kerala.The palace was handed over to the Government of Kerala by the Cochin Royal Family and in 1980, the palace was taken over by the Department of Archaeology and later converted into a Museum. It was opened to the public in 1986. The museum and its campus is one among the popular shooting sites for Malayalam film industry.The Horse cart gallery and weapon gallery are really amazing.

Taxi : After reaching Cochin, you can hire a cab, taxi, bus or auto-rickshaw to reach here.
BUS : KSRTC Central Bus station is near the Ernakulam Junction railway station. There are plenty of private buses available for travel from Ernakulam to other cities. They operate from High Court Junction, Railway Station and Kaloor Junction.
Train : The Nearest station is at Ernakulam about 12km from Thripunithura. The two railway stations in Kochi are Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town. Trains from the Northern cities/Southern parts of India stop at Ernakulam Junction.
Air : International Air Port is at Nedumbassery, near Aluva, about 22 kms away from Ernakulam, Kochi.
Others : Autorickshaw : This is a cheap method of transport between attractions. You can find an auto stand at almost every bus stop, and at important places near junctions and residential areas. Make sure you agree on a fare with the driver before the journey. The govt fixed rates starts at Rs 10 for the first 1.25 km and Rs 6 per km thereafter with a premium of 15% at night (7PM-6AM).

- Cameras are not allowed inside the palace and only can be used within the outside campus.
- Shoes are not allowed inside the main building and there is a counter to keep them.
- Kochi is infamous for mosquitoes, due to presence of large water bodies across the city. Make sure any room you book, has mosquito repellents or at least a mosquito net. Its always better to have any anti-mosquito creams or spice oil extracts like lemongrass oil to ward off mosquito bites.
- Public smoking bans are strictly enforced in the city more so than in other regions. The High Court of Kerala has decreed a public smoking ban across the state. Smoking on the roadside, in shopping complexes, restaurants, and parks is illegal and police can charge Rs 500-1,000 for breaches.
