Antigonish is a Canadian city in Antigonish County, star Scotia. The town is home to St. Francis Saint Francis Xavier University and also the oldest continuous highland games in North America.The name Antigonish is of Mi’kmaq origin and is believed to refer to “The place wherever tree branches square measure torn off by bears gathering beech nuts”.
The first European settlement passed off in 1784 once commissioned military officer Timothy Hierlihy received an outsized assignment encompassing Antigonish Harbour.
