Annunciation Eastern Orthodox Cathedral is that the non secular home of the most important jap Orthodox parish in Houston, Texas. Inbuilt 1950-52 by the Greek community of Houston. From 1967 to 1974, the church was the seat of the Bishop of the eighth Diocesan District of the Eastern Orthodox bishopric of North and South America. The church provides a spread of ministries and services and homes variety of organizations. It’s named for the Annunciation of Virgin {mary|The Virgin|Blessed Virgin|Madonna|Jewess|mother|female parent} Mary and celebrates its fete day on Lady Day.
The cathedral was designed during a Byzantine Revival vogue and may be a single-aisle undomed basilica with a structure. The iconostasis that divides the area and also the altar holds several of the icons from the first 1917 church. The primary Eastern Orthodox Church in Houston was inbuilt 1917 on Walker Street within the downtown space. In 1950, the church had to maneuver as a result of town construction and since the parish had outgrown its previous building. A brand new church was designed on Yoakum Street within the Neartown space. The church was completed in 1952. A community hall named for old church member S.P. Martel was designed not far away to the church and still serves the community.
