Ambarnath, it is one of the oldest city in Thane. Ambarnath literally means Lord of the sky. Ambarnath is the site of a very old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, dating back, to 10th century. The temple is carved out of stone in Hemad style construction. Ambernath is a part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Ambarnath Temple is on the Mumbai-Pune railway line at Akoli. Ambarnath Temple is said to be the only temple of its kind in India. The temple, which dates back to 1060 AD compared in the fascinating and delicate complication of design to the famous Dilawara Temples of Mount Abu. One can hardly or rarely come across a temple, which can compare even remotely with the Ambarnath temple. It is believed that King Mahamandaleshwar built the temple in the memory of his predecessor.

By Air : There is no airport in Ambarnath. Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the nearest Airport to Ambarnath situated at a distance of 55 kms. Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport is well connected to all major cities in India and also connected to many cities abroad including Singapore, New York, Bangok, Hong Kong and to many gulf cities. By Train : Ambarnath Railway Station is on Mumbai- Kalyan-Pune (Central Railway), which is well connected to all major cities in india. Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Station: 022-22697330.

By BUS : Bus services are available from Mumbai. These are a good option as the buses are cheap and can be hailed from the main bus terminus. Government buses may be crowded. Tickets are cheap and they cost around Rs 50.

By Taxi : Ambarnath is well connected by a road network and national highways. The tourist can reach to Ambarnath by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.

By Other : Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
