Alchi Choskor is a beautiful temple situated in the village with same name that lies on the banks of the Indus River. Alchi lies 70 kms from Leh. Lying in the heart of the Himalayan region, the village is a popular tourist place. The place is famous for the existence of the old monastery, Alchi Monastery. Said to have built during 11th century, the monastery is mainly known for its magnificent wall paintings done all in Indian style. The village is in the midst of a scenic location and surrounded by greenery making it a perfect place to relax and experience the quintessential Buddhist monastery life. Richen Zangpo is credited as the founder of the place.

Alchi village is famous for the existence of one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh (a national heritage) Alchi Monastery, mainly known for its magnificent, and well-preserved 11th or 12th century wall paintings, all in an Indo-Himalayan style.

By Air : There is no airport at alchi. The closest airport is located in Leh airport, this airport is connected to places such as Delhi, Jammu, Pune and Srinagar. Upon reaching the arrival the best option is to hire a taxi to the village of Alchi. Taxi charge from airport to city is only.Rs 1,400 .(Kushok Bakula Rimpochhe Airport no:- 01982 251 783)

By Train : There is no railway station in Alchi.The railway stations situated at Pathankot and Chandigarh are the nearest railheads to the village of Alchi. The distance between Leh and Pathankot is about 278 km and the two destinations are connected well with regular train services. The Pathankot Railway Station is well connected to major Indian cities and towns. Tourists can also hire taxis to reach Alchi from Pathankot.

By BUS : The village of Alchi is located at a distance of about 70 km from the city of Leh. There is a bus stand in the village and there are regular taxi as well as bus services from the bus stop. During summer, one can find one bus per day right from the center of Alchi.

Hemis festival ; Venue: N.A. ; Period :  June. ; Details:  The Hemis Monastery celebrates the Tse-Chu festival on the birthday of Padmasambhava – the founder of Tibetan Buddhism. It is a 2 day festival, where the resident lamas perform sacred masked. Masks worn by the lamas represent various guardian divinities of the Drupka order, of which Hemis is the leading establishment in Ladakh.
