Agartala the capital of Tripura is arguably one of the most diversely populated cities of India. By Air : Agartala airport is connected to Indian cities Kolkata and Guwahati. Other metro cities can be reached via Kolkata. Kolkata is well connected with all major cities in India and abroad. Agartala Airport (Singerbhil Airport): 0381 234 2224.

By Train : Agartala has its own railway station with has limited connectivity to other cities.Nearest railway stations are Kumarghat, about 160 km from Agartala. Approximate cost by taxi is about Rs 2,500 form Kumarghat.

By BUS : Bus service are available in Agartala. There are many road routes to reach Agartala from Kolkata and Guwahati, well connected by road to other parts of the Indian state of Tripura. Agartala is also connected to Assam (749 km) by the National Highway 44 whereas other important cities like Silchar (460 km), Guwahati (785 km), Shillong (686 km), Dharmanagar (173 km) and Aizawl (293 km) are connected.

By Taxi : Agartala is well connected by a road network and national highways. The tourist can reach to Agartala by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.

Durga Puja ; Venue:  N.A. ; Period :  seven days ; Details:  The Durga Puja season is generally the busiest time of the year and one can then experience the richness of Indian cultural extravaganza. Agartala is also known for its tribal festivals like Karachi, and Garia Puja.

Garia Puja ; Venue:  N.A. ; Period :  April ; Details:  Garia puja the traditional tribal festival celebrated in April symbolises the worship of mother earth and is spread over seven days. Singing and dancing is an integral part of this festival, as the tribals believe that celebrations will bring them prosperity for the whole year.

Kharchi Puja ; Venue:  N.A. ; Period :  July ; Details:  The many festivals in Tripura, the one that occupies the pride of place is the worship of the fourteen deities popularly known as Kharchi Puja. Thsi festival is celebrated in July at Agartala (Puran Agartala). The week-long celebration is held in the temple premises and is joined by thousands of people. The word Kharchi is said to be a corrupt form of Khya which means earth. Kharchi Puja is, therefore, the worship of the earth – the earth that sustains mankind with all her resources. Sacrifice of goats and pigeons at the alter of gods is a usual feature of the festival. Both tribal and non-tribal people join together and celebrate the festival in a joyous mood and be part of it.
