Accompong could be a historical maroon village, settled within the hills of St. Elizabeth Parish in Jamaica, consolidated by a pact in 1739. It’s settled in one in all the 2 areas wherever runaway slaves settled, originally with the Taínos, isolated enough to be safe 1st from the Spanish then later from country. The city of Accompong was named once the Maroon leader Accompong, WHO was the brother of variety of alternative Maroon leaders: Quao, Cuffy, Cudjoe, and Nanny, from associate degree Ashanti family.
In Accompong city, rebel slaves and their descendants wrested land from the colonial plantation-military regime and remodeled a marginal mountainous reservation, obligatory by a colonial legal pact, into a sacred landscape unmoving in ley. Cudjoe (also Kojo), a frontrunner of the Maroons, is claimed to possess united the Maroons in their fight for autonomy beneath the Kindah Tree – an enormous, ancient Mangifera indica that’s still standing (2009).
Accompong was supported in 1739 once the Maroons signed a treaty with country at close “Peace Cave”. The pact granted the Maroons their long wanted autonomy. But a second Maroon war bust move into 1795. The Accompong Maroons remained neutral and therefore the British left them alone. At the top of the war all the opposite Maroon settlements in Jamaica were destroyed, Accompong alone remained.
