Acaya is a small town, a frazione of Vernole, a comune in the province of Lecce in southern Apulia, Italy. Acaya has historical and archaeological relevance because is one of the very few fortified villages left in Apulia. Whole the urban architecture was planned to optimize defense and surviving capabilities. The road system pattern that dates back to the 16th century is characteristic.
In the village stands a magnificent castle built by Gian Giacomo of Acaya in 1535-1536. Renaissance fortress, is an important trace of the Arragon period. The castle has a trapezoidal shape.
