HistoryEdit

According to legends, when Arjuna (the hero of the epic Mahabharata) shot an arrow to the Mansar land, the arrow pierced the earth and came out through a place in Surinsar. Therefore, both the lakes (the Mansar Lake and the Surinsar Lake) were created.Historically, both the Lakes of Mansar and Surinsar carry a legendary tale dating back many centuries ago. It was during the Mahabharata era, when Arjun and his consort Ulpi – the daughter of kindred of Nag, ruled over this region. They had a son named Babar Vahan who wanted to take over as the Ruler.A feud arose between Father and Son and in order to prove his superiority over this region, Arjun travelled to the site near the Surinsar Lake to perform an Ashwamegh Jagya ritual. En route, near the Village of Khoon, situated near Ramkot Village on the Dhar and Udhampur Road, Babar Vahan captured Arjun’s Horse and beheaded his Father. He then presented the Head of Arjun to his mother Ulpi, who was completely devastated after this incident.
