Srisailam is a renowned hill town located on a majestic natural setting on the banks of the River Krishna in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Sikharam, the highest spot in the undulated hilly regions of Srisailam, is known for its majestic natural beauty, eye catching scenarios and a marvelous temple. The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is renowned as Sikhareswara Swamy temple. The idol is believed to be the Lord of Sikharam. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha in Sikharam. The famous Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy Temple located at height of about 457 meters on the southern bank of River Krishna is a major pilgrim spot in Srisailam hill town. This temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in the country. The artificial Srisailam Dam having a length of 512 meter constructed across Krishna River and the Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary with wealthy wild life are other tourist attractions in Srisailam.

Srisailam or Shrishailam is situated in Nallamala Hills of Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh. Nallamala forest ranges with densely wooded trees and diverse flora and fauna lies in the proximity to the Srisailam hills. These lusting green forest regions are ideal for adventurous trekking, hill climbing and forest exploration and research. Srisailam is the base camp for Nallamala explorations. It was in this Nallamala forest ranges, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr Rajasekhara Reddy was killed in a helicopter Crash. It is on the banks of River Krishna, about 232 km south of Hyderabad and 179 km from Kurnool Town.

By Air : The closest airport to Srisailam is located at Hyderabad, at distance of about 232 kms from the city. Hyderabad has its own airport, which is connected to Vishakapatnam, Bangalore, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and various other cities of India. Taxi cars and call taxis are available at the airport. The taxi fare from Hyderabad to Srisailam is about Rs. 2500.
By Train : Nearest railhead to Srisailam is the Markapur Road, in the Guntur-Hubli metre gauge rail route. The major broad-gauge railway station nearby is at Hyderabad at a distance of 232 kms. Taxi cars and call taxis are available at the railway station. The taxi fare from Hyderabad to Srisailam is about Rs 2500.
By BUS : Srisailam is well connected by Devasthanam buses and State owned APSRTC buses. APSRTC buses charge about Rs 80 from Srisailam to Hyderabad. The buses connect Srisailam with Mahaboobnagar, Hyderabad, Devorkonda, Mahanandi, Anantapur, Chitradurg, Guntur, Mantralayam, Tirupati and Vijayawada.

Pongal ; Venue: Srisailam ; Period : January ; Details: One of the most awaited events in Srisailam and all over the state, Pongal is celebrated with great passion and vigor. The term Pongal signifies sweet dish of rice which is eaten on the Pongal festival day. Jaggery, Cardamom and Cashew nuts are also included in this dish for the celebration. The local people dedicate this dish to God Surya, also known as The Sun God. It is one of the most imperative and well known festivals held in the month of mid January every year.
