Solan is a city in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Solan has one of the oldest breweries in the country and which is a place worth visiting while travelling to the place. It is also known as the mushroom capital of the country due to the large amount of mushrooms that are cultivated in the place. There are a few temples and monasteries that are located in the region and these are good places to visit for those who are spiritually inclined. There is a Tibetan monastery called the Yungdung Monastery and is an ideal place to unwind. The Jatoli Shiv Temple and the are also important tourist places in the city. Many devotees from the nearby areas can be seen in these religious sites.A 300 year old fort is located in a place called Nauni and this Gurka Fort is primarily in ruins. However it is still a nice place to visit. The fort is situated on top of a mountain and has a panoramic view of the countryside. There is a horticultural university and museum located at Nauni and one can also visit this during their stay at Solan. The climate of Solan remains please all through the year. While summers are ideal for sightseeing and adventure sports. Monsoons brings out the best of natural beauty and tourists can visit the region. During winters the temperature falls to freezing points and should be avoided.

By Air : The closest airport is located at Chandigarh which is around 67 km from the city of Solan. The airport has a domestic terminal that is connected to places such as Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur and Srinagar. Since this is a viable option, those who are arriving by air can opt for taxis from the airport and these cost around Rs 1000 for the trip.

By Train : Solan is connected by rail from Kalka and this is situated around 44 km away. The line is a narrow gauge line and only a few trains pass through here. Tickets from Kalka to Solan cost around Rs 35.

By BUS : State government buses are available to the city of Solan from places such as Chandigarh and Delhi. Buses are cheap and the ticket prices vary according to the operators and the distance. Government buses are generally crowded and it might be difficult to find proper seating.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
