Sikandra Complex Akbar’s Tomb is really an architectural marvel in Agra. The Great Mughal emperor began the construction of this complex, embedding various architectural styles. Jehangir, Akbar’s son, completed the Sikandra Complex after Akbar’s death. This majestic and imposing tomb is located in the scenic surroundings of a gorgeous garden. Akbar’s tomb is a perfect structure constructed using red sandstones and glossy white marbles. All the four sides are laid with grandeur doorways in multicolored mosaics laid with complex but beautiful patterns. The tomb of Mariam Zamani, Akbar’s Christian Wife from Goa and King Jehangir’s mother, built in red sandstone is placed nearby.

The third Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great (1555–1605), himself commenced its construction in around 1600, according to Tartary tradition to commence the construction of one’s tomb during one’s lifetime. Akbar himself planned his own tomb and selected a suitable site for it. After his death, Akbar’s son Jahangir completed the construction in 1605-1613. Air : Agra’s Kheria Airport is located 8 km away from the heart of the city. It will cost about Rs 150 from airport to city by taxi. Agra is connected to Varanasi, Delhi and Khajuraho by air. For other cities, tourists need to take the flight to Delhi. After getting down at Kheria airport taxis and tongas are available at the airport to reach this destination.

Tempos are also available, and these are shared vehicles which can be more comfortable than buses for slightly elevated rates. Tempo rates will vary from Rs 5 to 10. These are a safe mode of travel and can be taken up during night time.
