Kuruva Dweep Island is situated on the tributaries of the river Kabani and is a fabulous picnic spot. Its serene silence and wide expanse of the evergreen forest leaves you astonishing. This island is isolated but an array of uncommon species of birds, herbs and orchids are the monarchs of Kuruva Island. Just 17 km to the east of Mananthavady, Kuruva Island is a vast island of 950 acres abundantly rich with green forest. It is very far from the turbulence of city life making it an exotic place for visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature. It is closed during monsoon (June to September).

How to ReachEdit

Taxi : Taxis and private vehicles are one of the most common means of travel to Wayanad. The most popular route is Bangalore – Mysore – Gundulpet – Munthanga – Sulthan Battery. The roads are in excellent condition.

BUS : Wayanad is well connected by a wide network of roads and this place can be easily accessed from anywhere in Kerala as well as from neighboring states. For reaching Wayanad by road, NH212 and SH17 are the highways that you need to follow. Otherwise, you can take a bus or hire a cab. Deluxe buses are available for Wayanad, from Bangalore’s Majestic Bus Stand, from 9 am to 10 pm.

Train : The Nearest railway station from Wayanad is at Calicut, at a distance of around 110 kilometers from this place. It is well connected by a good network of railways. There are a number of local as well as inter-state trains that halt at the Calicut station and connect it with the other major cities of India

Air : The Nearest airport from Wayanad is the Karipur airport of Kozhikode. It is situated at a distance of around 100 kilometers from the city. There are regular flights from the airport to other states in India, like Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, and Goa and even international destinations

Others : Kuruva Dweep is 17 kms from Mananthavady. To reach the island we have to cross a small stream by foot. Ferry service is available to reach the island but could not get one to reach there since it is so crowded. Water level in the river was very low we crossed the river by foot also.

Safety / WarningEdit

Access to the island might be cut off during monsoon due to overflowing river and strong currents that make boating across a risky task.
Absolutely no signboards inside- easy to get lost. Have a look at the map and keep a geographical sense while roaming around.
Do not throw plastics and pollute the river/forest. Please bring them back to mainland and dispose off safely.
Doesn’t look like an ideal spot to swim. River was muddy and didn’t appear deep. Slippery rocks and strong currents command caution.
