Bhimashankar is a spiritual place with dense forest and tourists have to go via Manghar to reach Bhimashankar. Different variety of birds can also be seen at this place. A fantastic temple of Lord Shiva can also be visited. Bhimashankar is wrapped in the congregations of the majestic western ghats. It is said that the idol is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Bhimashankar got its name from the river Bhima. Legend has it that Lord Shankara got angry and killed Rakshas Tripurasura.  Enroute one can be embraced by Ganesh Ghat or Shirdi Ghat. Both the ways are a bit tough but at the same time enjoyable. If the dense forest route is taken, then you have to travel for 4 hours to reach to the top. The forests of Bhimashankar spread across an area of more than 1000 m. It gives a look of a high covering of thick green rainforests. All the trees of the forest are more than 60 feet tall. According to mythology these forests were once trekked by the Pandavas of the Indian epic Mahabharata. Best season to visit is from October to February when the climate is pleasant and dry.  June to September are inviting with intermittent showers and is good time for move around for those want to enjoy cooler climate after hot summer. March to Mar is bit hot and may be avoided for trips.

Bhimashankar Temple is a Jyotirlinga shrine located 50 km northwest of Khed, near Pune, in India. It is located 127 km from Shivaji Nagar (Pune) in the Ghat region of the Sahyadri hills. Bhimashankar is also the source of the river Bhima, which flows southeast and merges with the Krishna river near Raichur. The other Jyotirlinga shrines in Maharashtra are Vaidyanath near Parli Dist Beed, Trimbakeshwara near Nashik and Grishneshwar near Ellora around Aurangabad. Maha Shivaratri ; Venue:  Bhimashakara ; Period : February – March ; Details:  Bhimashakara Temple dates back to mid 18th century and is a composite of old and the new structures and is built in the Nagara style of architecture. The shikhara of the temple was built by Nana Phadnavis. Shivaji – the great Maratha ruler is said to have facilitated the carrying out of worship services. As with other Shiva temples in this area, the sanctum is at a lower level. The best time to visit the Bhimashankar Temple is said to be Maha Shivaratri as the temple organizes grand festivities on the occasion.
