Sindhudurg is a fortress that is located in the state of Maharashtra. The place is located along the coastal regions of the state and it was carved out of the District. Sindhudurg is bordered by the Western Ghats on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other side. The fort is located in an islet off the shore of town of. There is a Shiva Temple that is located in the fort and there are many interesting things to see here. The architecture is also excellent and entrance of the fort cannot be pinpointed from outside the fort as it is well hidden. There are still 16 families that are currently living in the fort. The fort is popular among tourists from abroad as well as tourists from other parts of the country. The nearby places are known for their cuisine which is unique and is known as the Malvani Cuisine. The region is famous for its sea food dishes, especially fish and prawns. The cuisine is a must try for those who are travelling to the place.Other places of attraction in the region include Vijaydurg Fort at Devbaug, Tilari Dam, Navadurga Temple located at Redi, and many other places. The Sri Sai Baba Temple which is located in region is one of the oldest temples in India. Napane Waterfall is another interesting place to visit.

Sindhudurg, Shivaji built this ocean fort in 1664 AD on a low rocky 48-acre island off the Malvan coast. Vijaydurg and Sindhudurg are twin forts from the days of Shivaji’s time that is a historic place with its serene coastal beauty. It is believed that Shivaji personally selected the site for the construction of the fort. For casting and the foundation stones, over 2,000 khandis (4,000 mounds) of iron and lead were used to it lay down firmly. There is a temple dedicated to Shivaji inside the fort. This is the only shrine of its kind in the country, which was built by his son Rajaram. Other temples dedicated to Hindu deities renowned in the Maratha pantheon (as Maruti, Bhavani, Mahadeo, Jarimai, Mahapurush, etc) lie within the limits of the fort. The Vijaydurg or ‘Victory Fort’ and the Padamgarh Fort are other attractions in the vicinity.

By Air : The nearest airport is located at Dabolim and for those who are arriving by air, this is the best option. The airport is around 80 km from the place and can be reached easily through taxis. The airport is connected to places such as Bangalore and Mumbai by frequent flights.
By Train : Sindhudurg has a rail station and a few trains stop at the station. However the closest major stations are at Sawantawdi and Kudal located around 35 km and 25 km from Sindhudurg respectively. The place is located along the Konkan Railway line. Taxis are available from the railway station to reach the place.
By BUS : State run buses are available from places such as Mumbai, Panaji, Pune, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri. Buses are the cheapest option and they are frequent as well. They can be boarded from the appropriate bus stops of the respective cities. However, they may be crowded and they are not comfortable for long journeys.
By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
