Siddapur is a town in Karnataka situated in district Uttara Karnataka. The average elevation of the town is about 564 m. In the Western Ghats of the Malnad region is the locale of Siddapur. Due to the forests and hills trekking tourists are attracted to the town. Waterfalls situated near Siddapur is also a centre of tourists attraction. The cool climate also adds to the beauty of the town. There are many temples in and around the town of Siddapur. The town of Siddapur experiences elephants jogging on the main streets of the town. The cool climate of the town and the beautiful sight of elephants walking on the main streets of the town is a treat to watch. Near the town of Siddapur is the Forest Reserve which is a training camp for elephant capturing. This camp is run by the forest department. The reserve is one of the largest one of Karnataka and is spread over an area of 50,000 acres. The historical importance of this forest is that the elephants of this forest are trained for the Dussehra. But of late, the population of elephants has been found to be on the decrease. The reason being that the animal is threatened by the destruction of its habitat. Best period to visit this place is from October to May, surely keep off monsoon months.
