Motihari is located in the Indian state of Bihar. This town is located in the East Champaran district and is a very popular tourist destination among both pilgrims and history buffs. The town of Motihari is located just 120 kilometers from the main city of Patna. Motihari is mainly known for its historical significance, as Mahatma Gandhi began his Satyagraha here for the first time against the British. The Mahatma was also responsible for helping the town of Motihari grow, as he helped the locals establish a school in a location twenty kilometers away from the town. The town of Motihari also attracts many Buddhist tourists throughout the year, as a major Buddhist stupa is present here. This stupa, also called as the Motihari stupa, is a magnificent structure that stands tall at a height of 104 feet. The stupa is said to have been constructed at a greater height, and only the remains can be seen now.
