Detail InformationEdit
The castle was first documented in 1306. The building was originally erected to protect the salt mines and the houses of the civil servants. The main port of the shipping industry was situated in Hall. All goods were brought here. Tons of wood for the salt mines were stored on the banks of the river Inn.
After the sovereigns had donated the Königshaus building, which became the town hall, to the municipality in 1406, and after Archduke Sigmund had ordered to bring all the silver from Schwaz to Hall, the tower became more important and was refurbished to a castle and a housing estate.
Emperor Maximilian ordered Gregor and Niklas Türing in 1515 to build St. George’s Chapel.
In the so-called prince room you can see a closet.
The lower part of the mint tower is round and was built with bricks. The upper part, which has twelve corners, was built in the Gothic era. You can visit the tower during a guided tour through the castle.
The mint gate is the last presevered town gate and contains relics from the coats of arms of Tirol and Austria.
