Detail InformationEdit

Ehrenberg offers everything one can expect of a medieval castle: military walls, high towers and plenty of history. There can be found traces covering some 500 years. For a long time the Ehrenberg castle had a peaceful existence. With the start of the religious wars this changed. Ehrenberg suddenly was the center of war activities. In 1546 the Schmalkalden captured the castle. In 1552 it was taken over by the prince elector Moritz of Saxony. In 1632 the Swedes tried to capture the castle. In 1703 the Bavarians conquered the castle. From 1716 to 1717 the Russian Tsarevich Alexey, who fled his father Tsar Peter the Great, was banned to this castle.
